HSL Example

On Tuesday we reviewed the HSL Panel in Lightroom.  While Thursday's aren't typically a blogging day for me, I thought I'd share a quick example of an image that I altered using the Saturation option and Targeted Adjustment Tool (TAT) in the HSL Panel.

The above is the original image.  The cattails in the foreground are illuminated by a setting sun while the blue sky reflects off the water in the background.  By selecting the Saturation option in the HSL Panel, I used the TAT tool and completely desaturated the blue water which resulted in the following image.

Personally, I love this perspective because it's unexpected.  The cattails jump off the image and the reflecting cloud and slight ripples in the water's surface provide an interesting backdrop.  The best part, it was done with a few mouse clicks right within Lightroom.

What do you think? Which image do you prefer?  I'd love to hear from you.
